Vaccine Efficacy

Assoc. Prof. John van der Hoek (University of South Australia)

We describe the process by which vaccine efficacy estimates is determined and the various theories by which a 95% confidence interval is arrived at.

We present a novel way to do this which could be used by regularity authorities can verify results provided to them by manufacturers of the vaccines.

This is particularly important because even in the extensive documents that the companies provide, the statistical tools are sometimes inadequately presented and different methodologies are in use. The regularity authorities need tools to check that the various methods provide similar confidence intervals for the vaccine efficacies.
