Honours Students

Completing Honours study after you have finished your Bachelors degree can add value to your career.

Students who do well in their Undergraduate degree may apply for entry to an Honours degree specialising in any of the areas of study supervised by the School.

Honours requires an extra year of full-time study and if targeted in your area of interest, will enhance your career opportunities in both the public and private sectors and also with international firms who often require an Honours degree before considering applicants.

  • What is Honours?

Honours is a 1 year program consisting of a research project and associated theoretical work. An Honours year provides professional training in a chosen area of specialisation and experience in scientific research. It also enables students to learn new research techniques and broaden their skill base.
The Honours experience leads to increased job opportunities and is the foundation year for direct entry into postgraduate research degrees in Australia, e.g. the PhD.

Prospective Honours students should contact the appropriate Honours Co-ordinator listed on each School page. These co-ordinators will assist you in making contact with specific researchers who are working in an area of interest to you.

In your expression of interest, you are strongly advised to provide a current and correct email address and postal address, that you will be able to check and respond from during the period in which offers are made (see below).
It is your responsibility to provide a correct address, and to check that address for an offer/outcome.

Offers may be made in advance of all of your final grades being posted. In such cases, you may accept the offer, but your admittance will be conditional on obtaining the required grades for eligibility into the Honours program and any courses required to complete your Bachelor's program.
