This project aims to validate a novel biosensor as a potential diagnostic tool for the diagnosis of subclinical mastitis (SCM) in dairy cows. SCM is a big problem in dairy cattle and the diagnosis is challenging prior to the development of clinical signs.

To validate the in vivo oxidative stress (IVOS) biosensor developed by University of Adelaide scientist Dr Roman Kostecki, milk samples from healthy dairy cows; cows with subclinical mastitis; and clinical mastitis cases will be analysed comparing the IVOS measurements with isoprostanes, a current gold standard for oxidative stress in other conditions.
