The South Australian State Chair of Petroleum Geoscience at the Australian School of Petroleum and Energy Resources professor's appointment will see him representing the Australian-New Zealand scientific drilling community on this panel.

The IODP is arguably the most successful, enduring, multinational science collaboration, having undertaken marine scientific drilling expeditions for over 50 years.

This advisory board's role is to conduct a detailed scientific assessment of potential geohazards in proposed or scheduled IODP drilling expeditions from the point of view of safety and environmental protection.
