Professor Rob Woodgate 

Prof Rob Woodgate

Head of School, Animal and Veterinary Sciences

Professor Rob Woodgate is an Australian veterinarian with more than 30 years of experience in livestock health, production and research. Professor Woodgate has worked in private veterinary enterprises, government roles – including emergency animal disease management – and tertiary education. 

Professor Woodgate is a recognised international leader in sustainable livestock parasitology, with more than 20 years’ experience in field and laboratory parasitology across Australia. This includes communicating with, and facilitating, practice change at all levels of the livestock industries. He was the national project leader of Australia’s ‘WormBoss’ project (2005 to 2012) and is the veterinary parasitologist (since 2017) on the National Association of Testing Authorities Australia (NATA) Animal Health Accreditation Advisory Committee.

    Rachel Norris

    Associate Professor Rachel Norris  

    Associate Professor Rachel Norris  has over 20 years of research and teaching experience in anatomy, morphology, and evolutionary biology. Her research encompasses a wide area of topics from skeletal anatomy of vertebrates to the variation of morphology in mammals. Associate Professor Norris began her career in tertiary education with the University of Adelaide in 1992 as a comparative anatomist, and has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to delivering quality learning outcomes in veterinary anatomy. Associate Professor Norris was awarded a high commendation for an Executive Dean of Sciences ‘Excellence in Teaching Award’ in 2021. She is a member of several committees including Executive, Program Management and Admissions at the School of Animal and Veterinary Science and has been a key contributor in expanding the School’s operations and curricula. She was awarded an Associate Professorship in 2023 in recognition of her achievements in education, research and leadership.

    Associate Professor Kapil Chousalkar

    Professor Kapil Chousalkar

    Professor Kapil Chousalkar has over 20 years of research experience in the fields of veterinary microbiology and virology. After the completion of his PhD and postdoctoral appointment with the University of New England, Professor Chousalkar was appointed as a senior lecturer at the University of Adelaide. He was awarded a professorship in 2021 in recognition of his ongoing commitment to a high level of research and teaching excellence within Animal and Veterinary Sciences. Professor Chousalkar is also the Deputy Dean (People & Culture) for the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology where he ensures equality across schools.
