Mighty macrophytes: Ecology & management of common reed & bulrush
Common reed (Phragmites australis) and bulrush (Typha domingensis) inhabit freshwater and brackish ecosystems across southern Australia.
While native, their abundance has increased greatly encroaching into the habitat of other species.
We invite honours students to work with us on research into the drivers and the consequences of their expansion to help improve management strategies.

Study terrestrial plant ecology
Our research focuses on applying ecological knowledge to address management and restoration of natural vegetation.
We focus our work on arid lands and Mediterranean-type environments; the last including woodlands, grasslands and wetlands in the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Our approach always includes a strong conceptual framework and rigorous experimental design to investigate ecological issues ranging from the theoretical to the applied.
