Virtual StatsPD@Waite meeting

Every month, the professional development meetings of statisticians and data scientists at Waite, known as StatsPD@Waite, bring together specialists in various aspects of data sciences in agriculture from Waite, Roseworthy and Adelaide.

Please join us for the next StatsPD@Waite meeting where Eduardo Covarrubias-Pazaran from the International Wheat and Maize Improvement Center CIMMYT will present on the optimization breeding schemes in the CGIAR.

Please note that the StatsPD@Waite meetings are recorded. If you have a question to the speaker but would rather not be recorded, please send your question to Beata Sznajder via chat during the meeting.

Email Beata Sznajder  for details of the Zoom meeting.

Optimizing breeding schemes in the CGIAR: methods and results

Edurado Covvarubias-Pazaran

The CGIAR breeding programs are responsible for producing most of the improved varieties grown in the developing world. Unfortunately, the rates of genetic gain that most CG programs have decreased dramatically. The Excellence in Breeding platform is in charge of modernizing many of the breeding pipelines in order to increase productivity and face the challenges expected for the next decades. The Module 2 of breeding scheme optimization through the use of different methodologies such as six sigma and simulation is helping the breeding programs to go into the right direction. Here, we present the current methods and results.
