Student Mentoring Programs
As a School of Agriculture, Food and Wine student, you will have access to a range of programs which support your learning and help you adapt to university life.
Waite Peer Mentor Program
This program connects students at different year levels of all degrees offered at the Waite campus so they can learn from each other’s experiences and ensure a smooth transition between North Terrace and Waite campuses.
The structure of the program was designed by second and third year students from the Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology and Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences degree programs.
Activities include a 'professional speed dating' event where first and second year students can meet and ask questions of their peers in third and fourth year. It also features panel discussions with past graduates who share their experiences after finishing their undergraduate studies.
Rad Undergrad Mentor Program
The Rad Undergrad Mentor program was established in 2018 and involves higher degree by research (HDR) students at Waite mentoring undergraduate students from the School of Agriculture Food and Wine to share their experience about what continuing onto an Honours or HDR program entails.
Activities may involve the undergraduate student shadowing the HDR student or assisting with a specific experiment for either a day or half-day.
HDR students gain experience in engaging and working with others, communicating their research and inspiring undergrads who may be considering embarking on a research program or degree.
Undergrad students get some first-hand experience in what a research degree may entail and can ask a current HDR student all the curly questions they may have before deciding to take the plunge on an Honours year, Masters or PhD.
